Rare Cold Nor'easter with #rain and #snow

Rain will start to intensify for the region this afternoon as a low pressure along the SE coastline intensifies and begins moving north and starts to phase with northern stream energy.

Impacts:

SNOW:

The system will continue to get stronger and wrap in cold air so that mountains deal with a serious snow storm with many seeing in excess of 6" of snow and even 1 to 2 feet in some of the highest elevations from Northern WV, Far western MD, Western PA, and SW NY. As the system continues wrapping colder air in, the DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia areas could see a rain/snow mix tomorrow morning and even tomorrow evening.

RAIN:
Rain amounts could be 2 to 3" along the coastal plains with 1 to 3" along i-95 and around an inch on the immediate Piedmont of the Appalachians. This is welcome news and other than localized flooding due to poor drainage, the water table is in need of some water input.

WIND:
With such and intensifying low pressure the winds will be a factor! This could mean serious beach erosion for some, coastal flooding, and a lot of downed trees in the wet snow areas. Winds along the coast could gust to 50 mph and many will see 30 to 40 mph winds. Inland areas will see mainly 15 - 25 mph wind gusts. Prepare now with generators, flashlights, and whatever other needs you would have if power goes out.

Should be a wild ride.

Earth Day Note: This last week ice levels on the planet are now above normal! Yes! ABOVE normal. As a matter of fact we have seen some of the highest ice levels ever recorded on satellites in the last several weeks! Crazy! Global warming.... where are you?

Clearing Today|Sunny Friday|Heavy rains in Showers and Storms this weekend!

After getting rain yesterday 9isolated folks had quite a bit with showers and storms) we see a drier day with sunny skies. The temps will rebound from the 50s and 60s yesterday to the 60s and lower 70s today. Cool night and then a very nice Friday with highs reaching the mid an upper 70s.

Rain for the Weekend. Totals 2 - 4" ....

Saturday will see temps again in the 70s but showers and storms will become common from west to east as the day progresses. temps will struggle out if the 50s and
lower 60s

Sunday with rain being a good bet all day, and quite a bit too! See HPC's outlook - http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/95e12p48iwbg_fill.gif

Cool air will start to get entrained into the system and Snows in the higher elevations could definitely be falling Sunday night into Monday morning above 2500 feet, but higher elevations of PA and NY look to get the most amounts.

Cool conditions settle in Monday and Tuesday with highs struggling into the 50s Monday and 50s to low 60s Tuesday. A warming trend looks possible later next week with highs possibly again approaching the 80 degree mark or higher.

All for now!

Hot day - Cooler week but still mild - Rain?

Temp will be very warm today and be close to 90 for many. A front will come through overnight and drop temps, but no rain and we need the rains! Temps will be much cooler tomorrow in the 70s for most. Cooler still Wednesday with highs in the Upper 60s to mid 70s which should be repeated Thursday. A bit warmer Friday with later day increasing clouds. I am hoping we see some rain Friday night and Saturday as the region is getting very below normal on rainfall and we will start to see the affects very soon without a turnaround.

All in all, a nice dry forecast for the week. Also, of note, pollen counts are about as high as you can get today! Pollen.com has the Northern VA, MD area at an 11.8 out of 12 for pollen! Accumulating pollen for sure!

All for now!
