10/27 VA,MD,DC Weather Outlook

COLD AIR DAMMING EPISODE MAY NOT MATERIALIZE! ECLIPSE WILL BE LIMITED. SOME RAIN SHOWERS LIKELY TODAY, ESPECIALLY SOUTHERN 2/3 OF VIRGINIA. A NICE AND WARM WEEKEND AHEAD AS TEMPS COULD HIT THE 80s IN SOME LOCATIONS. NEXT WEEK A BIT OF A PUZZLE BASED ON MODEL DIFFENCES, BUT A STRONG FRONT COULD CROSS THE AREA AND CAUSE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS!

HALLOWEEN WILL BE A TREAT!

Today:

The Lunar Eclipse is in jeopardy of being eclipsed by clouds. Though some breaks should occur enough to see it, I am not holding out for a great view of it. Again, the details are on http://www.space.com . With clouds, a touch of rain for parts, and a little cold air damming, highs may not break above 65 to 70 at best in most locations today.

Tomorrow:

Cold air damming does not look as strong, so the temps may be all over the place! If the sun breaks through, 70 would be possible, without the sun, 60-65!

Friday:

Cool conditions will persist as clouds are on the increase. I expect it to be similar to today, with highs 65 to 70 at best.

Weekend:

I am very optimistic that we will see 70Â’s to 80 degrees in many locations this weekend! A front will traverse the area so cloudy intervals are likely, and a shower or two cannot be ruled out! Really enjoy the weather as it may be the last of such warm conditions during a weekend for a while. As noted, Halloween looks dry and warm!

Election Day:

It doesnÂ’t matter! Get Out And Vote as I see this as one of the most important elections in the history of the US! There may be rain to deal with, but, just as the election, it is very much up in the air based on which set of data you look at! =)

The National Weather Service in Sterling did a great review of the Ivan tornadoes that is worth the look! http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/lwx/sept17tornadoes/

I also received the following from Emergencye.com concerning disaster aid deadline approaching for the counties hit by Tropical Storm Gaston:

ONLY ONE MORE WEEK LEFT TO APPLY FOR DISASTER ASSISTANCE
RICHMOND, VA There is only one week left for individuals and business owners in
12 Virginia localities affected by Tropical Storm Gaston to call and apply for disaster assistance.
The deadline is Nov. 2.
Residents and business owners are eligible in the cities of
Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg and Richmond, and the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield,
Dinwiddie, Hanover, Henrico, King William, New Kent and Prince George.

If you had losses, but have not applied for assistance, you should do so immediately.
There are two ways to apply. The first is by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) toll-free application number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for the speech and hearing impaired.
Both numbers are operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week until further notice.
All for Now!

10/26 DC,VA,MD Weather Outlook

Fog Horns a must this morning for many regions! Sun is shining for most, finally, and soon for fogged in victims. Concerns of Lunar eclipse being eclipsed by clouds! That Dammed Cold air may re-visit Thursday and Friday. Mild conditions next week with possibilities of good rains. Current Halloween Outlook still looking GOOD!

Cold air above us, a warm moist ground, and calm winds aid in good fog production this morning and the next 2 possibly. Today looks great after the fog lifts with temps rebounding due to sunny conditions. Still concerned coastal areas will stay under the cool marine influence, but finally, most will see temps reach the 60,s and 70Â’s in the Southern most areas!

Tomorrow:

A piece of energy will be streaking through the Jet stream which will cause some cloudiness (though high clouds). This may limit the viewing of the Lunar Eclips which will start around 9:14 pm. This is still up in the are though. http://www.space.com/spacewatch/top10_eclipse_041026-1.html has great facts on the eclipse. As does http://www.nasa.gov/vision/universe/watchtheskies/13oct_lunareclipse.html

Thursday:

Cold Air Damming may set up again and may not erode until Later Friday! So, I am skeptical of warmer temps these two days! Friday night may also have a few showers when a warm front moves through.

Weekend

Saturday may end up nice! A warm front will push through Friday night which will hopefully be strong enough to break the cold air damming. It may be actually very nice with highs above normal in the 70Â’s (Cooler mountains)

Halloween looks very seasonal with highs reaching 60Â’s to lower 70Â’s. May be a bit breezy after a front moves through in the earlier parts of the day

Long Term

Signs of a strong low moving up through the plains and to our west could mean rain, but also could mean a more mild period. Only caution is that the season of Cold Air damming always needs to be remembered and can rob a nice forecast without much warning!

All for now!

Cold conditions will finally become Seasonal after today! Possible Showers Saturday, but a good looking Halloween on Tap! POSSIBLE, colder pattern First week of November, but pattern still seems to favor Seasonal To Mild Conditions! That Dammed Cold Air! Since last Wednesday Temperatures have been staying in the 50's ( Some 60's) and very cool for a large part of the region east of the Mountains. It appears, that drier air will finally get to work in the upper atmosphere and break the damming a bit today, and more significantly tomorrow! The damming (or cold air trapped near the surface east of the mountains) is a result of a blocking large storm out in the Atlantic, and a High up in Canada. Check this Satellite that puts the Low in motion! Next Several Days: The rest of the week looks about on course for seasonal weather with temps in the 60's to lower 70's. Do not forget Wednesday Night's Lunar Eclipse! See details at Space.com Next chance of Rain will be next Saturday, and Sunday is looking OK for Halloween!! Long Range: There are signs, but not a strong conviction on my part, that a colder pattern could form next week for our region. I will keep you posted All for Now!

Cool Conditions Continue Today.

Rest of the week looks dry and seasonal.

Long Term, possible rain next Saturday, but no major cool downs in sight.

I will continue to work on the Web Site! Feel free to give me feedback at wxman@midatlanticweather.com

Strong to locally severe storms possible this afternoon

Especially east of the mountains. A strong front, moderate instability, and very strong winds aloft will combine to produce showers and embedded thunderstorms. Due to the strong dynamics involved and shear available, isolated rotating "Super Cell" thunderstorms are possible which could produce brief tornadoes. The Severe weather will likely be scattered. The Front passage should set up a very breezy and chilly weekend with highs struggling through the 50's in many places! Stay tuned to media and weather outlets for watches/warnings!
