Final Call for 12-29-2012

This may be a bit underdone for a few but about right from what I can see. Again this outlook is brought to you by my Friend Dave at Lawn Design. You may see white tomorrow, but you want green in the Spring. Check out http://lawndesignva.com and schedule a winterization! Mention Mid Atlantic Weather for a Discount!

Quick notes:

·         The storm looks healthy and a little separated in the precipitation field now. This could consolidate

·         Heaviest for our region starts around sunrise

·         The rain snow line will be pushing Northwestward.

·         As the coastal explodes more snow will occur North and East

·         Mountains get their west slope enhancement.

·         If the storm gets its act together sooner more snow will fall!

Snow on the way for many Western Half of VA/MD- light to moderate event!

This Saturday looks like a general 1-3 inch system with the possibility of some places seeing 3 - 6". I-95 looks like the battle line again, but more snow this time than last system there! There are hints it COULD be the higher side. I like a 1-3" general outlook with a few 3 - 5 " locations. More to come! WINDY and cold today!

Nice and sunny tomorrow.

Sunday looks nice and chilly as well as New Year’s eve. New Year’s day and into Wednesday of next week may be anotrhert wintry system!

We also have signs that January may be a SERIOUS cold one!

QUICK UPDATE

Merry Christmas to All!

Snow and sleet look to break out by early morning and the QUICKLY turn to rain along I - 95 and east. A slower transition West of there! I would be most worried most about is right along the foothills NORTH of Charlottesville area and into Western Maryland. I could see 3 - 6 inches of snow Northern VA Mountains and up into Western Maryland. Ice in these same areas seems likely to be an issue. Then we have HEAVY rain tomorrow with even some flooding possibilities and thunderstorms in SE VA and down into NC where Severe could break out! To follow winds. Then another system Saturday which again may be a Mountain and Western VA and Western MD issue. COULD easily be some snow east of there. And then we watch next week for ANOTHER chance of wintry weather!

Winter is here! MERRY CHRISTMAS AGAIN! Updates later!

Winter storm not looking as likely

At least on the models today. I will keep watching.

Snow and ice looking way far west!

Snow possible Christmas Eve - More likely Day after Christmas

Can you feel it? Well if you can't you have not been outside!!! Windy - I MEAN - Super windy - And cold!

Christmas Eve? Tough to call! Looks like snow a possibility, especially Northern Maryland and higher elevations. Areas west of 95 and north of Fredericksburg. This is wild. Many areas may have a little snow on the ground Christmas morning.

AND THEN - Well - a winter storm is a coming! How it pans out is still up in the air, but as of now, west of 95 to the mountains may have some icing and the further north the longer it will last. I will try and break it down better as we approach the event, but will have to make a map and guess Monday, outline areas, and then make calls as I will be busy that day!

Mountains look like a 6"+ snow, areas of the Piedmont 2-4" with ice. Ice will be an issue all the way down to Roanoke, but how long things are one way or the other is too risky to call.

PLEASE STAY WELL INFORMED!

WINDY AND COLDER! Snow Christmas? Wintry Weather Wednesday/Thursday

How about a green spring?! Well you need to get the yard treated with a great winter fertilization for that to happen. My good Friend at Lawn Design (http://lawndesignva.com ) can definitely help! Please reach out to him today and mention Mid Atlantic Weather for a deal!

THE WEATHER:

First off: Next 36 hours! Easy to figure out. Go outside and it is cold and windy. The concern will be the strength of the winds starting tonight and into tomorrow. Gusts could exceed 60 mph at times and this may cause some power issues! Again, may need some alternate places to go to stay warm if the power is out for a long while.

Sunday - EASY - Cold and typical December day. 40s for the most part.

Monday - First set of question marks! A smaller system looks like it will approach and cause a bit of precipitation Christmas Eve or Christmas day! I would see that areas of the Mountains and definitely north of the Maryland border could get some snow! White Christmas!

Tuesday - Looks cold and maybe some light snow/sleet/ rain.

Wednesday is when all things go crazy. I am suspecting we will will see ice and sleet a real possibility along the Appalachians and Piedmont, west of I - 95. There may be some snow as well. This being so early, it may be all snow for some. IT COULD be rain - maybe a bit of a mix to start. I am convinced some frozen precipitation will fall Wednesday/Thursday but the exact type, how long, on who exactly gets what is still up in the air!

Unsettled!| Colder for Christmas| Snow? Rain?

This week will be a bit busy and stormier than we have seen. The region is very dry and we need the rain! Today rain will be intermittent showers. Still quite mild in the 50s. The heavier rains look like they will come in tomorrow. There could even be some thunder in areas! Rain will end Tuesday, but mild weather will continue. Showers look to return Thursday and this will be the front that ushers in much cooler air. Temps Thursday in the 50s, but Friday in the lower 40s north and still upper 40s to low 50s South. Then the weekend looks really chilly with 30s and 40s for all.

What about Christmas? I will say, long term forecasting is at an all time low in confidence that I would even have an idea! There LOOKS like a storm right after Christmas that could bring some white to the region. I wish I had more confidence there! There is at least a signal of an approaching system. The exact fate is too far away for me to be certain of types!

Much colder today - Milding up and then some rain! Colder air?

We have to realize there will be colder shots in this milder pattern. Today we feel it! Cold start with lows in the 20s and 30s. Temps will rebound to just the 40s today. Tomorrow they head back to normal, and then 60 is again in sights this weekend. The only issues this weekend will be the rain chances starting Sunday and into Monday. We were super dry in November so this is a welcome sight.

As of now the chances I can see for more sustained colder and possible snowy pattern would be towards the end of the month! This month turned out much milder than I expected!

Nice and mild next few days - Pattern change, maybe not as fast as hoped!

Very mild today and tomorrow We see a step down to cooler weather by Wednesday and then much cooler Thursday. Highs 60s and 70s today, tomorrow, and Tuesday!
Showers are possible tonight and Tuesday night.

Weather will stay seasonably cool into the next weekend with the chance of showers Friday night and also Sunday night into Monday!

If the pattern does turn the real chances of wintry weather will come after next Sunday.

All for now.
