12/19 DC/MD/VA Weather Outlook

A day of transitioning weather and some snow! Monday will be bitter cold, followed by a very fast seasonal mild up! Next weekendÂ’s potential still there, and if it materializes, could be very significant!

** Please Register and post your weather observations today as snow arrives! http://www.midatlanticweather.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=14#14 I have a forum topic for todayÂ’s system!

Summary:

A strong cold front will cross the area today. Strong energy involved will squeeze some snow showers out over several hours, but only a few bursts of heavier snow and the will be too brief to do much. Western facing slopes and higher elevations could pick up 3-5” in the north and 1-3” in the south. Monday will be very, very cold! Wind chills will be sun zero in the mountains and single digits to teens east of the mountains. 24 hours later, that atmosphere will dramatically warm and rain will be on tap Tuesday night through Thursday. Some will be heavy! Then a cold front through the area Friday **MAY** set the stage for a real winter storm! Models have done some flipping on this, so I will keep watching!

Today: SW: 40-45 SE: 40-45 N: 35-45 (Temps falling later in the day)

Increasing clouds. Rain and snow showers becoming all snow showers this evening. Minor accumulations generally .5” on grassy at most, and mainly North. Mountains could see 3-5 inches north, 1-3” south.
