7/8 DC/MD/VA Weather outlook

Heat will return starting tomorrow and in earnest on Sunday. Hurricane Dennis comes close to a Category 5. Remnants MAY affect us next week, but not that likely a direct affect like Cindy. Heat ridge now looks like will build, and Dennis Remnants to make us very steamy!

Summary:  Heavy rains did fall and isolated wind damage and flooding reports. A few tornadoes, but By and large I was pretty surprised at how much the area was spared. NC had many reports of tornadoes. Cindy is departing and warmth will build in this weekend. We could stay Hot and relatively dry except the typical afternoon chances of showers and thunderstorms. There is a pretty good chance that humidity levels will rise next week which will increase afternoon and evening thunderstorm threats as Dennis Remnants Drench the Tennessee and Ohio River basins. Being east we should see good southerly tropical moisture and thus better chances of rain.

Tropics: Dennis has just strengthened to 150 mph winds as of 11 am this morning! 5 more miles and hour an he is a rare Category 5. he is Extremely Daneraous now! Please see information on Dennis in the Tropics thread http://www.midatlanticweather.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=504#504 . Would love comments. Track would seem to favor a landfall in the U.S. east of LA and maybe the FL panhandle . See information on the Saffir Simpson Scale here : http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutsshs.shtml

After Dennis teh tropics may calm down for a bit.

7/7 DC/MD/VA Weather Outlook

Very heavy rains, as much as 6 inches, for parts of the region! Severe threat, especially I-95 and east tonight and tomorrow! Warm weekend. Maybe some cooler (seasonal to slightly below) weather later next week, but pretty warm before then.

Summary:  Rain will be on the increase today with heavy rains spreading Southwest to Northeast from the remnants of Cindy ( See all information on the storm in the archives of the Tropical page here http://www.midatlanticweather.com/hw3.php?config=&forecast=tropsystems&alt=tropallsystems&hwvmetric= ) . Pretty warm temps with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s this weekend. This may hold for early next week and then a slightly cooler pattern could visit for a while. Dennis MAY affect us with rain next week, but I would not be surprised if its leftovers were not too impressive.

Tropics: Dennis has just strengthened to 105 mph winds as of 8 am this morning! Please see information on Dennis in the Tropics threat http://www.midatlanticweather.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=504#504 . Would love comments. My gut says that he will come ashore near the Texas Louisiana border. He will likely be the first Major Hurricane of the season Category three or above) See information on the Saffir Simpson Scale here : http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutsshs.shtml Of Note: A Strong disturbance off of the African Coast (http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT/EATL/IR4/20.jpg) MAY become Tropical Storm Emily.. Bears watching.

6/14 DC/MD/VA Weather Outlook

Been busy again! WOW is it going to go through some changes this week! From well above average to below by Friday! The Heat will sizzle today with heat index values up to 100 – 105. I would not be surprised to see some more storms fire especially in the west. Tomorrow will still be hot, but the transition front will be swinging through. Temps will knock down to the low and mid 80s in  Thursday and in the upper 70s in the north Friday! Just feel that the changing of the air masses could trigger some severe. The weekend could have some showers, but temps will stay below normal and humidity should stay away!

Summary: Had quite a nice line of storms in the Northern Half of Virginia and Maryland yesterday. Today, we are just baking in the heat and our first Heat Advisory in many locations east of the mountains. Tomorrow the front approaches and isolated severe storms seem possible. A chance of showers should be there through Thursday and Friday but temps will step down to the 80s and then even the 70s in the northern areas. Temps look like they may start to climb Monday to near seasonal norms. Of note, a disturbance in the Caribbean is being monitored for possible tropical developments.

6/7 DC/MD/VA Weather Outlook

A steamy day is on tap today! Highs will be 90s for most people east of the mountains due to a warming westerly wind component. That includes areas near the coast and near waters west of the bay, but just east of the bay may be cooled by the waters. Strong to severe storms could fire in the South and Southeast today. I will monitor for a possible alert. Warm and steamy conditions will likely hold through the extended period with highs pretty much in the mid to upper 80s. There should be a slight break in the humidity tomorrow though.

Summary: An exciting night for me in Sterling Virginia! Heavy winds and a lot of lightning made the storminess exciting. See the storm reports for VA here: http://www.midatlanticweather.com/hw3.php?forecast=stormreports&use_state=va&maplinks=   and Maryland here: http://www.midatlanticweather.com/hw3.php?forecast=stormreports&use_state=md&maplinks= Warm and humid temperatures will be a dominant factor for the near term with the Bermuda High being prevalent. Isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out in warm steamy conditions that we will experience. More widespread storms could be seen Friday.

6/6 DC/MD/VA Weather Outlook

Scattered Severe weather is likely in the north today as temperatures continue to be hot. Temperatures will back down Wednesday as well as humidity. This pattern will then continue into the next weekend with an increased chance of scattered afternoon storms over the weekend. We look to warm back up early next week.

Summary: So, we have definitely warmed up! Temps are now approaching 90 and the humidity is up there. Welcome to Mid Atlantic Summer! We have a good chance of convection today and that could spell severe storms with high winds and heavy rains. Tomorrow we should stay warm but a drier weather pattern will set up on Wedneday so the warmth won’t seem quite as oppressive. The dry and warm temps starting Wednesday may last through the coming weekend!
