All for now!

Temps and Humidity creeping up with Thunderstorms and showers today and tomorrow!

Storminess should make an appearance again today and especially tomorrow as 2 disturbances cross teh region. Rains could be locally heavy, especially tomorrow! Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s and humidity should really be on the upswing.

Storminess should become less widespread Wednesday and then Thursday and Friday look fairly dry. Highs will continue in the 90 to 95 degree range.

All for now!

Warmer air - but much less humid - Week coming of typical summer weather storms and warmth

Many locations yesterday reported rain totals of 1 inch or more, and some had much more! Today the dryer air is very refreshing and will make the hot 90 degrees seem cool compared to the roasting of last week. This week then presents 90 to 95 degree temps all week with daily chances of showers and storms in the afternoon. Better chances will occur Tuesday, but daily chances will begin Monday straight through Friday. We can REALLY use the rain as parts of the region are in a moderate drought.

Tropics are very quiet for now and look that way for the near future. We are behind what was going to occur in 2005 when Emily was born the day previous and she became a Category 5. That year was so intense!

All for now!

WHAT WAS I THINKING - LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS!

Big rains in the mountains are slowly moving east! As much as 3 to 5 inches of rain are possible in the Shenandoah. There are already reports of up to 2 inches of rain!

Be careful too! As roads that have been dry for weeks get rain the oil will be very slick! Showers and storms are scattered around the area! Locally heavy rains possible!

All for now!

Rain is coming but not too much

Rain is coming. It has entered the western areas already. I do suspect
some isolated Severe and locally heavy rains overnight and tomorrow
morning. Cooler tomorrow and a return to 90s Sunday.

SOOOO HOT!

So I have been Tweeting on Breaking Mid Atlantic Weather (actually Re-tweeting) at http://twitter.com/breakingmawx all the news of the heat! HOT! 100 or higher for so many!
At one point Frederick County Maryland was reporting 106! INSANE. Some relief (low 90s instead of upper 90s and 100s) will come Thursday and through the weekend.

STAY COOL - STAY HYDRATED - STAY INDOORS if you can!

All for now!

Dangerously HOT! An unexpected cool down!

We will sizzle the next 2 days, but have relief and rain that will come and visit later this week. No need to go into details! HOT temps of 100+ today and tomorrow. Then, interestingly, a low to the Northeast, off the Atlantic coast, will drift south westward and bring temperature and rain relief to the area! That is great news and it was not expected until the last 24 hours as the models picked up on this Low. That means Thursday,Friday, and Saturday will see highs in the 80s and low and middle 90s verses the upper 90s and lower 100s. Rain also is a possibility each day with Saturday showing the best potential.Rain chances will remain through the weekend for southern areas.

The tropics were busy the last few days. It looked like Bonnie had formed just as a Low headed into Louisiana! The disturbance over the Southwestern Caribbean still could become a Depression.

All for now! STAY COOL!

Sunday, July 04, 2010

HAPPY FOURTH!Hotter today!MUCH HOTTER tomorrow! More tropical stuff

Not much to add from yesterday other than, the heat up is on and it is gonna be brutal! Highs will be around 100 starting tomorrow and last until Friday! Not much more to say!

The Tropics have another Invest that came to light last evening. I think the low in the Gulf is a done deal and will head onto shore later today. The System in the lower Caribbean needs some watching and just may be the next system to threaten Mexico or Texas! Some models do show it strengthening, but it will take some time to get a true sense of what it will do. I am suspecting it will make it to Tropical Depression status.

Saturday, July 03, 2010

Did you enjoy the break from the heat? It is OVER! 100+ degrees for 5 straight days is possible

Happy 4th of July! We still live in the best country in the world, though we have many challenges and our foundations have been undermined, we are the country that so many want to come to! God has blessed America, you should really take time to figure out why!

We will be a HOT, and I mean HOT! 100 degrees is possible for 5 days in many locations starting Monday! I see no rain and now parts of the region have hit moderate drought status.

After Hurricane Alex, which was one of the strongest June Hurricanes on record (it had a pressure of 947 MB) and if it had time it would have probably become Major, we now have a disturbance in the Gulf that we should watch, and a wave is about to come off Africa

Please be careful tomorrow as we will have low humidity and the sun angle would mean a good chance of Burning as the IV Index is very high at 9!

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

The cool down begins|Alex to be a hurricane

Today we will still see highs 90 to 95 but we should notice that the humidity begins to go down! This will be welcome! Temps will then really fall to the low and mid 80s maybe even the upper 70s Thursday Temps will then begin a step up daily Friday, Saturday, and then back to the 90s by Sunday and Monday. Today will make it day 18 of 90 or above for June in the DC area which will tie or break the record for June for the number of days at or above 90! http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalweathergang/2010/06/june_heat_record_at_risk.html for some stats.

Alex looks to become a Hurricane later this morning. He may take aim on the far southern shores of Texas or Northern Mexico. He is currently 70 mph winds. He has continued a more northward trend than thought. This has raised the risk of a Texas hit. The longer he takes to turn the higher the risk. Models unanimously agree that he will likely curve and hit just below the Texas/Mexico border http://www.midatlanticweather.com/images/tropical/plotsystemmodels_NT__1_atlantic_merc_o1440x1080_555_M1122_M127_M0056_1280x960_640_480.png
He will likely become a strong Category 1 storm or possibly Category 2.
As of now, no other disturbances in the tropics.

Severe Weather Likely this Aftenoon

As a cold front approaches the area this afternoon, strong to Severe storms are likely to form High winds is the likely severe element in the storms, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Additionally, very heavy rains are possible in some storms. Please stay alert to news and radio outlets for watches and/or warnings.

Super hot today

Not a lot of time to post. Expect temps within a few degrees oif 100
today and heat indexes 100 to 105 for many. Not fun!

Alex barely a storm now will emerge and re-strenghten in the lower
gulf. He could become a Hurricane and will likely hit Mexico South of
Texas, but I would watch out for him down there. Sone are forecasting
him to make it to category 2 status or even possibly higher.

HOT! Tropical Storm Alex|Cool down still in the works

It will be very hot today and tomorrow! Tomorrow could again see temperatures in the upper 90s to 100! Pop up storms could fire this afternoon and a better chance tomorrow. Monday will be a bit cooler with temps still 90 to 95. When the front clears, cooler air will visit and arrive in force Wednesday through Friday when temps will be more in the 80s than the 90s. Severe weather may also be something to content with as this cold front moves through.

Alex was born this morning. He has strengthened to 45 mph winds and is looking better and better on Satellite. The Yucatan will weaken him and then he will emerge in the SW part of the Gulf. Models are showing him strengthening then into a Hurricane. As of now, the track may be northern Mexico or Far South Texas coast - BUT - it is WAY too early to be that specific. Interests in the TX to LA area should stay tuned to the storm!

More to come on Alex and another Tropical Wave later today!

The Expansion of Mid Atlantic Weather is moving onward! I will be sharing more later today. As a hint! Please get some weather Pictures ready to share!

THE AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT INVESTIGATING THE

DISTURBANCE IN THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA HAS FOUND A WELL-DEFINED

CIRCULATION CENTER WITH A MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE OF AROUND 1004

INITIATED ON TROPICAL DEPRESSION ONE AT THIS TIME. THE INITIAL

INTENSITY IS SET AT 30 KT BASED ON A BLEND OF WIND DATA FROM THE

AIRCRAFT AND SURROUNDING OBSERVATIONS.

THE DEPRESSION IS VERY CLOSE TO TROPICAL STORM STRENGTH...AND

CONDITIONS APPEAR FAVORABLE FOR SOME INTENSIFICATION BEFORE IT

REACHES THE YUCATAN PENINSULA IN A DAY OR SO. AFTER WEAKENING OVER

LAND...THE CYCLONE COULD REGAIN SOME STRENGTH WHEN IT ENTERS THE

SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO. THE OFFICIAL INTENSITY FORECAST IS CLOSE

TO THE DECAY SHIPS MODEL...WHICH INCLUDES THE EFFECTS OF

INTERACTION WITH THE YUCATAN PENINSULA.

THE INITIAL MOTION IS RATHER UNCERTAIN BUT THE BEST ESTIMATE IS

300/09. A MID-LEVEL RIDGE IS FORECAST TO PERSIST OVER THE GULF OF

MEXICO FOR THE NEXT 48 TO 72 HOURS...THEREFORE A GENERAL

WEST-NORTHWESTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED DURING THAT TIME...WHICH

SHOULD BRING THE CYCLONE ACROSS THE YUCATAN PENINSULA AND INTO THE

SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO. AFTER 72 HOURS THE TRACK MODEL GUIDANCE

DIVERGES...WITH ONE GROUP...INCLUDING THE HWRF AND GFDL...TAKING

THE SYSTEM ON A MORE NORTHERLY OR NORTHEASTERLY TRACK. A SECOND

GROUP OF GUIDANCE...INCLUDING THE GFS...ECMWF AND NOGAPS KEEPS THE

SYSTEM ON A MORE WESTERLY TRACK OVER THE SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO.

THE OFFICIAL FORECAST IS A BLEND OF THESE TWO.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS REQUIRED FOR THE EAST COAST OF THE

Not as hot or humid with 80s|Weekend is hot|bigger cool down a coming

The storms yesterday were not widespread when they hit VA, but some places had some severe. Today we *COOL* to the upper 80s to around 90 for most and a less humid northerly wind will blow through making it very nice in comparison the last several days. We will heat up again tomorrow and Sunday with afternoon or evening thunder for most. Temps will be around 90 Monday and then cooler low and mid 80s appear likely Tuesday through Thursday next week. Some concern on Monday for Severe weather.

Tropics: The Caribbean system looks more healthy and a tropical depression could form before it crosses the Yucatan. When it re-emerges in the Gulf it may make it to Alex. Another wave in the Atlantic looks somewhat impressive as well.

So very Hot!Severe storms possible|Some relief|More heat,then biigger relief - Tropical troubles

It very well could be the hottest day of the Summer so far. Temps will reach 100 for many and this, combined with humidity, will make it rough. The air quality is also poor prompting code orange and red days for metropolitan areas. This afternoon scattered storms will likely fire up and could become severe. High winds are the biggest threat.

Tomorrow we will see less humid conditions and little cooler air. Some areas will stay in the upper 80s in the north, and the south will see a bit less humid 90s. The heat engine will get cranked up again this weekend and cause temps again to go to the low and mid 90s Saturday and mid an upper 90s Sunday. Monday should have more storminess and then a real break with people seeing highs in the mid 80s to around 90. I do believe that the temps will again climb for the Holiday weekend.

Tropics continue to be active and I see a very likely scenario that a tropical storm will form down there by Sunday if not sooner. Models are now more favoring the western Gulf for a landfall, but that will become  better defined once we really see a system.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

The Heat is really HOT! Concerns are growing for the GULF!

Today and Tomorrow are likely to be the hottest days so far this year. Temps will reach very close to 100 today and likely be felt in many areas tomorrow - the Heat Index values will climb to 105+ for some and it is just going to be awful! Normal Hot weather advice is there, but also check on the elderly and anyone with special needs to be certain they are keeping cool!

Storms could fire again today and some could be severe and the Severe Storms Prediction Center (SPC) has outlined a lot of the area for potential severe storms. Winds are really the main concern in them today.

Tomorrow will have the hottest temps we have seen in some time. I HATE hot weather!

Some relief will be possible Friday as we *cool* to upper 80s and lower 90s. A better cooler shot of mid and upper 80s could visit the region towards the middle of next week after more storms Sunday and Monday

Tropics: The wave impacting Haiti and the Dominican Republic appears on MODELS to mean business early next week. Alex looks like a strong possibility to form and be a serious threat to the Gulf States. This could be a serious storm or even Hurricane by then. Please note that Media will really start speaking of the possibility and, with such a warm ocean, we are likely to see something!

Of note, another tropical system is also showing signs of strengthening in the middle Atlantic.

Hottest Spring on Record - more to come!

Spring sprung with a lot of heat! Richmond has had 21 days of 90 or
above, and DC is nearing 16. It is not hard to determine how hot the
summer will be. Very hot. The area is likely to see temps at or above
100 tomorrow for many and heat advisories and excessive heat warnings
have been issued. Hard to believe that a record snowy year is setting
hottest year as well!

The Atlantic is hot too! The Caribbean has an impressive tropical wave
and may spawn a tropical depression.

Air Quality has been bad and some areas have issues code red
(Richmond) tomorrow!

The theme of the summer will be played out the next 2 weeks. Many
tropical systems, heat waves, will be the headlines!

More to come!

The heat rolls on - AIr quality poor - Severe threat

Another HOT day today with highs reaching the low and mid 90s. There
is a chance of storms later today, especially across the North. Some
storms could be severe so the SPC has outlined the Northern Half of
VA, MD, Northern WV, DC, NJ, and PA for a Slight chance of Severe
weather.

Hotter conditions seem likely tomorrow and Thursday with Highs
reaching the mid and upper 90s. Thursday could see many reaching 100.
Also, the humidity is likely to increase.

News will be updated later highlighting the regions warmest Spring on
record. http://news.midatlanticweather.com

Tropics: Signs are pointing to a caribbean development in the next few
days. Long term models SCARE me with a hit in the Gulf

Welcome Summer! Heat goes on!

And the heat continues today with highs 90 to 95 for most and not much in the chance of rain department. Tomorrow and Wednesday's heat could be worse with temps hitting the mid and upper 90s for many! Tomorrow afternoon and evening look to begin a breakdown in the drying "cap" on the atmosphere and a daily 30 - 40% chance of rain enters the picture. This rain chance should continue until the weekend when we will continue hot, but dry.

The tropics are a little busy. 92L is sticking together, though not very organized. It may have a chance to strengthen some when it emerges into the Gulf. Models are picking up on a possible development in the Caribbean in the next week. We will have to watch and see.

All for now.

The air quality is poor and it will feel like low 100s today as the

hold some relieving showers and storms.

Hot streak is coming

90 degree+ weather on the way to stay! Yesterday was nice - lower
humidity, a nice breeze, at least in Northern VA. Today will still be
less humid with temps in the north still in the 80s. Temps from
Central VA south will still be in the 90s. 90 and above temps will
also be felt by all, except the mountains and immediate coastal areas,
from Saturday to at least Thursday of next week. By Saturday
afternoon, Humidity will also return. Air Quality is also likely to
deteriorate.

Tropics have a potent wave over the Lesser Antilles, but I am not
expecting development at this time.

Just Lazy, Hazy and Crazy days of summer ahead!

Hot stretch

Areas of Northern VA and north will see the mid and upper 80s today
and tomorrow while central and Southern VA, and NC continue their
stretch of 90s.

90 or above will be the daily highs starting today Saturday through at
least Wednesday of next week. Low to mid 90s north, and mid and Upper
90s South with even a chance at 100 Sunday Central and Southern VA,
and more likely NC.

Tough weather time ahead!

Cooler North - Showers and storms in South VA and NC - More rain and Severe Risk tomorrow

The Front that came through the northern areas yesterday has stalled to the south and will be a focus of heavy raining showers and storms in Southern VA and NC today. SW VA and a large part of Southern WV have flood watches posted. Warmer air and humidity will stream back north tomorrow and severe storms are possible tomorrow as a front comes through the region again.
Temps in the low and mid 80s north and upper 80s to 90 south today and tomorrow.
Temps will stay in the 80s north for Thursday and approach 90 Friday.
Widespread 90s will persist in the south.
90s will be the rule for the whole area all weekend, and mid 90s to the south!
A hot and humid weekend will be in store for all and more storm chances Sunday North.
Longer term is showing signs of a serious heat wave towards the end of the month and start of July.

The Tropics remain interesting. The 92L system has pulsed stronger overnight and may be a Tropical Depression. Its fate will be strong wind shear which will likely pull it apart within the next 48 hours. Another wave on its heels is being watched as well. See http://tropicalweather.blogspot.com for information.

Very Hot and Humid with Isolated storms - heat relief coming!

We will see another scorcher today with highs in the lower and mid 90s. Heat Index values will likely be at 100 or above this afternoon. A front will be coming through and this should trigger some thunderstorms but its trajectory and dynamics will make it somewhat limited.
Off and on shower chances will occur tomorrow and more widespread, needed rains will visit Wednesday.

It is gonna be a scorcher as we head to the low and mid 90s tomorrow with very high humidity! Temps will feel like 100 or close to it! We will also see thunderstorms fire again and some could be severe.
Monday will repeat this all over again before a few days of break in oppressive heat, but do not get used to it! More heat will build by Thursday as we again approach the 90 to 95 degree mark.

This is likely the pattern for Summer too! High heat and Humidity will be a repeat performance week after week with little respites between.

There is quite an interesting feature out in the Middle Atlantic as well and it may be the first tropical storm in a few days if it strengthens. Of note, middle and eastern Atlantic Tropical Storm formation most years is later in the season and the fall. This year temps are very warm so a tropical system could form out that far. This is the fear this year as well. The Atlantic is a very hot steam bath this year and will likely yield many storms. We can hope they stay at sea, though signs are there that this will be a bad year. I am serious when I ask for prayer this year as it could be very bad for many people.

All for now!

Caroline Weather Center Forecast For Central VA (May 20)

http://www.carolineweathercenter.com

Warmer today - Weekend looking will have a risk of rain. Could be very HOT if you lived elsewhere - try 130 degrees!

So we are sunny region wide and temps will respond. Widespread 80s. This looks to continue tomorrow, Unfortunately as the system approached from the west over the weekend, moisture will also stream north and give us a chance of showers and storm by Saturday, increasing chances from west to east. I am not thinking it will be a wash out, but something to monitor.

A hot place on the planet now is Jacobabad, Pakistan! Highs there will be around 130 degrees through the weekend! WOW!

Severe Storm threat to increase - especially tonight - Hail, Winds, and isolated tornadoes

Today will be hot and increasingly unstable. Storms will start to form, but more to the west, later today. Storms will have a lot of rain, winds, and hail. With the way that these storms are, it is possible that tornadoes could form as well. The chances of a tornado are not great, but a bit higher than what we normally see.

The storms will really hit the area more overnight and into Monday morning. Please stay alert for watches and warnings that could come up as soon as this afternoon to the west.

Severe Threat Sunday - Strong storms, Hail, Winds, and Tornadoes are possible

The Severe Threat will increase Sunday - Storms with the potential of hail and high winds as well as tornadoes will start to affect the Western area and spread east. This will be something to stay on top of tomorrow! Storms are currently dumping flooding rains (in excess of 12 inches in some places) in Tennessee. Tornadoes are breaking out all over Arkansas. I am watching the videos o storm chasers on http://severestudios.com.

Stay alert tomorrow!

Cloudy day with numerous showers and storms!

The showers and storms last night were more isolated than thought. Some did hot severe criteria with hail and high winds. There was also the threat of flash flooding from some of the storms. Today will see a generally cloudy day with showers and afternoon storms likely. There is a chance some could become severe, but far less a chance than yesterday.

Clouds will depart tomorrow with cool 60s to around 70 for many. Warming to mid 60s to mid 70s Wednesday, and 70s area wide Thursday. The Weekend could be quite warm with mid 70s to even mid 80s possible.

The Storm in Mississippi that caused the Tornado now has the rating of an EF-4 and a path that was AT LEAST 97 miles long! Bad news for many! Yazoo, MS had 350 homes destroyed and 10 deaths. Thoughts and prayers are with all that were affected.

Cool North, Rains on the Increase - Thunder with possible severe on the way

The day will see an increase in moisture and rain showers. As more unstable air moves in storms in south ad southwest will increase. The risk of Severe weather does visit the area tomorrow as the combination of heating and a low pressure forms over the region. High winds will be the main threat, but hail and isolated tornadoes also appear possible.

Temps today will be quite in the range. The north will see highs in the 50s and the south in the 70s. Tomorrow, the north will see 60s and the south could hit 80!

Rain showers will continue through Tuesday and temps will be seasonal Monday and Tuesday.

What a sizzler! More heat today - lessening tomorrow with Showers and Potentially Severe Storms - Cooler Weekend

All kinds of records broken for heat yesterday. Record heat 2 months after a record snow is just wild. The heat will continue today with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s for a lot of people. Tomorrow a strong cold front will pass through and drop temperatures for Friday to mid 50s to Mid 60s. The Upper 50s to upper 60s will return on Sunday and back into Upper 60s and low and mid 70s for Sunday.

Of note, with stronger dynamics there is the possibility for Severe Storms tomorrow afternoon and evening. The Severe Storms Prediction center has outlined us for a Slight Chance of severe.

Flooding likely for rivers! A lot of rain on the way!

If you have been reading the headlines the heavy rain event that has been forecast for days is now starting to truly take shape. A strong low will bring copious amounts of water to the region and rain will pick up and become heavy tonight through a lot of tomorrow. The question is how much rain. I was fairly certain a 3 to 5 inch rain was in the works, but I am thinking 1 to 3inches, more like the 2 to 3 is more likely with isolated higher amounts in the north. We will see. I am now thinking north of the area up into Southern New England may see the bulls eye. No matter what, the moist ground, melting snow pack will contribute to flooding! Also, of note, the winds will be high enough to bring down trees so power outages will be an issue. Drizzly sunny with a gradual clearing Monday will round out the short range!

All for now!

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Flooding rains becoming a real possibility Thursday through Saturday

Not much time (as usual) but flooding rains appear likely this coming Friday and Saturday as a slow moving, very powerful system comes though. Rain could be in the 3 to 5 inches range. Snow pack from the mountains will melt to exacerbate a potentially severe flooding episode!

Please stay alert! Floods kill more people than all other types of weather events!

More to come!

Monday, March 08, 2010

Warmer - Spring DOWNPOURS likely later this week

Well, after a very high precipitation winter, later this week we look to get potentially flooding rains! We will need to watch the situation as we get closer to the event, but several inches of rain could occur starting Thursday and into Friday. The weekend looks showery. Until Wednesday upper 50s to even a possible 70 and above reading is possible in the area. 50s North, 60s to near 70 south!

Enjoy the weather while it is sunshine!

Beautiful weekend on tap! Temps to jump to 60+ for most Monday

4 weeks ago we were starting the big dig out from Snowmaggedon! I finally posted about 100 pictures to the Mid Atlantic Facebook page! http://fb.mawx.net should get you there!

We have a beautiful day on tap with widespread 50s for us all! Tomorrow some will see 60+ temps and then Monday most folks outside of the Mountains will see temps hit 60 or above.

By Wednesday we could see rain on and off last up to, and maybe into next weekend. So get out and enjoy the nice weekend!

Longer term, we could again see a cool down and parts of the region may still deal with some snow before the month is over!

All I have for now!

AND NOW WHAT!?

After an amazing winter (about 82 inches in my back yard!) we are stating spring! First I want to say that this was just an an awesome winter! I look back at photos (which I will get on line) and I do not even remember! It was a month ago now that the prospects for a seriously enormous storm started to really seem like a sure thing! just amazing!

Meteorological Spring starts on March 1st! The last 24 hours were a bit tricky. Spring storms are tough and the right elements did not pan out for a widespread accumulating snow! Please know that meteorology is not an exact science! It is so hard to predict! This year was a bit easier than many when the big storms were coming! Why? Well the conditions were easy to see and well modeled. I may take some time to document each event, as a reminder and a way to look back in later years and just be in awe!

This Spring will be tough to get warm and remain somewhat wet. The El Nino pattern that caused our incredible storms is not gone yet! The colder high latitude blocking which was also a key has retreated and broken down. It may exert itself again briefly. 2 storms may affect us.. one in about a week and another a few days later. One note, it is possible some snow could occur with the second system and some cooler air after the first storm.

All for now!

Snow will more likely be an issue for Southeastern VA, NC, SC, and GA

The trends are there that this storm will not make it up the coast that far. There are many variables as to why:
1. The Low Pressure of New England is strengthening. If it had/would not have and if it moves out, the issue will be removed
2. The system DOES phase, but not until the system is past the East Coast. This will cause the Low to miss the possibility of coming up the coast
3. What precip falls will fall into marginally cold air which means melting and not all snow except maybe overnight.

All that to be said, this year we have tended to end up with some accumulating snow from southern systems, but this looks just too far south.

Today we head to 50 or above for the area. Tomorrow with clouds, 40s look likely into Wednesday. Then we see a gradual warming after Thursday.

By next Sunday and Monday temps will again be in the 50s and areas could see 60s in a bout a week that have not seen them for a long while.

All for now!

SNOW ALARMS sound - Chances of snow increasing!

Latest trends do point to snow Tuesday into Wednesday.. How big, not sure. ALL of VA and Most of central and Eastern MD and and Western Half of NC and SC! This will be a big storm - Historic in the south and major for north looks possible!

BIG STORM ON THE WAY??!

Yes next week looks interesting! You will see snow forecasts get more bullish on the storm. This MIGHT not make it huge up in Nova and Maryland but central and sw va down into NC and maybe even SC could see some snow! West SC and NE GA will! WILD WINTER IS AT IT AGAIN!!!

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Sorry for the DIRE snow prediction - I really missed bad on this one!

The outcome was much drier than I had thought! Trends were showing this yesterday and I should have completely abandoned the idea! I am sorry to all!

BLIZZARD conditions to be met for a large part of Maryland an a little of Northern Virginia! - First Guesses on some points!

Latest Models show main threat for larger snows stay Northeast in Maryland. Could see a 1-3 inch snow in Loudoun - maybe 3 to 5" in DC - Baltimore looks like a 5 to 10 inch system to me. Still bears serious watching as the models have shifted back an forth quite a bit! Winds will howl Thursday with snow in the air! Winter is not done!

Also, light snows possible all the way down in Richmond and along coastal plains of VA as the storm passes by - General 1 - 3" possible, mainly on grass

3" puts DC at snowiest February on record!

As of now my first Guess:
DC - 3- 5" - Blizzard conditions

VA:
Dulles - 2 - 4" - Blizzard conditions
Leesburg - 1-3" - Near or Blizzard conditions
Fairfax - 3 - 5" North half of county/ 1-3" south! - Blizzard

BLIZZARD CONCERNS GROWING!

Models are trending more snowy Thursday.

This will be a Blizzard! More to come!

Rain today - Rain tapering overnight and some clearing - Some snow "Possible" later this week - A final big one?

Not much timer. Rain is on schedule today - This will not be a wash out of all snow.

Thursday is interesting as the whole region could see a bit of light snow activity but it could be more prominent south, if temps are cold enough. I do not see a serious threat for us. That system goes to the Northeast and becomes a HUGE system with a blizzard and feet of snow for parts of New England. Should keep us breezy and cool.

Next week a system *COULD* come up from the south and be quite the snow maker. This is all dependent on how the end of the week works out with the current system.

Sorry for the quick posts, but that is all I have for now!

Not an easy forecast week on tap - Mild/Seasonal day ahead!

First of all, today will be downright mild and nice. It is the influence of a late Feb sun and we hit near normal temps area wide! melting is in full effect! Tomorrow we will see rain, but tomorrow night into Tuesday there is a chance that we could see a mix of precipitation back over to snow. I am not expecting accumulations. Tuesday into Wednesday looks cloudy to becoming sunny.I am not exactly certain what is going to happen Thursday. There is likely to be some storminess around and this could mean a bit of snow. There are some hints at a bigger system that could affect us that day. This is dependent on a storm that could form along the NC coast. I am not too convinced of it now. What I am convinced of is that temps will head back below normal this week. There also is a threat of a bigger system the first couple days of March and that one *COULD* be rather significant.

To snow or not to snow? OHH it is not easy!

So, I have been very busy with life and that makes it very tough to be on line and updating! I AM SORRY!

What in the world to do with Monday's system.

I am LESS impressed with it! It has been flipping back and forth between a snow to rain, barely much, rain, and, at one point, even a snowy system on models.

What does this say?
Well, in most years, I would conclude, if it is so hard to get  snow storm on a model, it will not happen! But, this year we have some things that have helped it be a snowier outcome! My conclusion, It will likely be some snow, possibly significant, but probably not an ALL snow system! Now, this is NORTHERN Virginia and Maryland that I think *COULD* have significant snow. Some areas will see a snow to start, and then a turn over to rain.

How much?
I am very concerned about the amount of rain! IF we get a lot, flooding and house leaks will be something serious we will have to deal with! I DO expect this will be the case! Flood watches and warnings will end up being posted!

Could it be all snow?!
POSSIBLY, but i would point only to the Northern 1/3rd of VA and Western 2/3rds of Maryland as the possible snow area!

What is next?!
A little colder conditions set up next week for us, but a real Arctic invasion may be in store for the nation. THIS MAY set up a bigger snow storm later next week, but, ironically, a lot depends on the outcome of Monday's system!

So I have a lot of questions remaining. I would suspect that in the next 24 hours I will have a better grasp of this. What i do know is that something is likely Monday!

All for now!

Big storm on the Horizon?

Signs are starting to point to a large snow storm next Monday!
Pattern says it is right, Models now just starting to see a potential
big storm. Yes, snow will be a big factor in the storm. Where? This
now looks in the major category (10+ inches)
